3 Steps to Awesome - 8x10" Mixed Media on Canvas
I got started with art late in life. Some people might say that it was too late to start an art career. I refuse to acknowledge that idea for even a moment.
It's taken me a long time to get to the point where I'm comfortable with the work I'm creating, and the truth is, I probably wasn't anywhere near ready to do the work until this moment in time. I hadn't learned enough, hadn't experienced enough, and I didn't have the guts to make the work that mattered to me.
It's really easy to step into creativity and be swayed by the status quo, to make what the world says I should make. There are countless artists out there putting out work that might be rich in technique, but lacks any sense of courage. They may end up selling a lot or work right now, but at some point, that popularity will die out, because they chose a path of quick reward. They make art based on what will sell instead of making art that alarms, inspires, or evokes emotions. I cannot make that kind of art.
So, if I'm not focusing on art that makes money, how do I plan on being successful at this venture? By believing in my work, believing in myself, and taking action. All three of those are essential for the plan to work. Miss any part of that equation, and you don't get the desired result.
I made this piece as a reminder to myself, but I'll gladly let you take it off my hands, so it can be a reminder to you as well.
