Witness to War
As one of his first executive orders as president, Donal Trump gave more power to the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), allowing agents to more aggressively pursue undocumented immigrants within the United States. This caused a tremendous upheaval among families all throughout the country, and created one of the worst human rights atrocities ever brought down by a Presidential administration.
Being born and raised in California, I have lived and worked along side some of these people. Contrary to what Trump says about them being rapists and thieves, the Latino and Chicano people that I have been around have always been the most hard-working, loyal individuals.
When I found this image of the young woman, huffing her flowers upon her head, with a smile on her face, it immediately resonated with me as a sign that the people of this ancient culture will persevere, and climb out from under the thumb of an oppressive administration.
